Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a member?
Download a member (or team) commitment form.  You can scan and email the form, send it via mail, or bring it to the next meeting.  As a member you are able to sponsor an organization.  If it is your first meeting you must have signed the commitment form, current members must have donated at the last meeting in order to place a name in the basket.

I would like to be a part of this organization, but am not sure I can afford the yearly donation. Can I still be a part?
YES!!!  Grab a partner or 2 (or 4) and form a team!  You split the cost and the vote, but double the fun! You all get the benefit of exposure, networking opportunity and a terrific shared experience.   A team gets one vote when selecting a charity, and may nominate one charity per meeting. Check out the Team Member Forms on the forms page. The more women that are a part, the bigger the impact.

Which organizations are allowed to be sponsored?
In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization should be located in Westerville, Ohio.  A 501(c)(3) organization is preferred for consideration.  Donations will be given to Westerville charities/non-profits.

What is a 501(c)3?
501(c)3 is defined as "exemptions apply to corporations, and any community chest, fund or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational purposes, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, promote arts, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals." However, for the purposes of 100+ Women Who Care all groups up for consideration should be local. For more information please visit the IRS website.

How is the organization that receives the donation chosen?
A member who has signed the commitment form can put the name of the local organization into the box for random drawing.  The organizers of the meeting will collect names of organizations from the participants as they arrive.  At random, three organizations will be selected from the box.  The member who wrote down the organization will be asked to come up and give a short five minute presentation as to why their organization should receive the donation.  A five minute question and answer period follows.

How do I vote if I cannot attend the meeting? What is proxy voting?
This can happen in two ways:
1. You can send a blank, signed check with a trusted friend to the meeting.  They will write in the name of the charity that is chosen and give it to the organizers on your behalf.
2. After a meeting is over, members who were not able to attend can check the website or call the organizers to find out which charity was selected.  You can then write your check and mail it to the organizers and we will send it to the charity on your behalf.

Can I just send the donation to the charity myself? Why do you have to send it on my behalf?
The goal of 100+ Women Who Care organization is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group.  We want to be able to support the endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community, with each member's donation being part of the larger donation.

How long do the meetings last?
Meetings are intended to be very short, generally lasting no longer than 45 minutes to an hour.  However, we encourage members to stay and enjoy dinner afterwards.  In fact, supporting local businesses is a natural extension of our organization.  We hope you'll stay, network with other women and continue your patronage of the restaurant

Is my contribution tax deductible? How do I get my tax forms?
Yes, your contribution is tax deductible unless a cause that is not a 501(c)(3) is voted on by the majority.  Checks are written directly to the local organization NOT to 100+ Women Who Care.  Your tax forms will be sent to you directly from the organization that receives your contribution.  PLEASE NOTE: Any sponsored non-profit is not allowed to create, sell or distribute a list with your contact information.  They are not allowed to solicit you for further contributions.  If this were to happen, the organization would no longer be considered at future meetings.

Can I bring a friend to the meeting who is not signed up?
Of course you can!  However, in order to vote they will have to sign a commitment form, one can be obtained at the meeting or you may download it.

Can my employer match my contribution?
Yes, in many instances your employer may match your contribution dollar for dollar.  Contact your employer to see if they have a matching contribution program.  You may submit the form along with your check.
